HORGAN HOUSE
The title Horgan
House refers to the location at which I recorded forty-five minutes worth
of environmental sounds during an early morning in springtime. I have
taken the field recording and processed it in a program that plays back
only isolated bandwidths of the sound file depending upon the amplitude
of the recorded sounds.
The number of active bandwidths varies throughout the piece as does the
degree of filtering applied to each one. In some cases, I have used the
information from a bandwidth to modulate sine waves. Played back in the
same space from which the sounds originated, the piece mimicks the rhythmic
logic of the environment, bringing to the awareness of the listener sounds
and structures that would otherwise remain unarticulated.
